VERY LATE. (hey, i was still in p4 then...). i also remember looking at the news channel before all the sports channels for the next few weeks wondering whether there was some breaking news on osama.
anyways the next day in school everyone was sorta tense and not speaking to each other until this guy called basil broke the silence saying ww3 was going to start and everyone was chattering. it was eng next so when the teacher came in, gundu govind asked whether we should observe a minutes silence, and got screwed for some reason. something along the lines of 'not doing so for the millions of deaths that take place every day.'. weird teacher we had. 'cherry bua'.

onto what happened today. a depressing day to kick off school really. double math + one on one tamil (which no one believes i had) + history. tiring. came home on the 156 and was dozing off. kept hitting my head on the sticking-out-thing-with-the-bell-on-it. His songs always sort of make you, for want of a better word, envy the american culture. as mm lee said singapore will not really develop a sustained and homogenous cultural identity of its own due to globalisation etc etc...but the american culture and its icons seem so...absorbing and soo intruiging. its like sometimes you feel the hollywood is quite true. joel's songs (and songs from that era in general era i.e simon n garfunkel) talk about the great depression, post world war love, joe dimaggio, multiplexes, peacing out, drugs, literature deal and new york minutes. its so exciting. lyrics maketh the song. eat you heart out kevin federline and spouse.

WE Didn'T START THE FIRE - Billy Joel

I know i did not know him and yada yada yada, but when someone so...ubiquitous...dies at such a young and sudden age, you just feel this sense of emptiness...that the world has been deprived of one more environmentalist. And i hope that is not one too many. Before i went online and found out from about a dozen people, i saw the crocodile hunter on the cable tv guide...and i just ignored it, having no clue its host had died a freak death. its one of those things where you cannot help but wonder why we appreciate people only once they are gone. Live for the present. However tempting it may be to indulge in your dreams and aspirations for the future, do not ignore the present, because if you keep reaching for the stars, your feet will be lifted off the earth, your home and your loved ones. And maybe one day, one day when you do land on the stars, you will miss your dearest, and the jump back down might just take too long...or the fall might harm you terribly. This is the stuff of chain emails, but hey, its from the heart.

second.

15 isn't very long. We will miss you. And our thoughts are with you, and we pray for your soul.

For those of you reading out there, keep healthy, keep fit, and do one thing. Keep your friends close and (no, not your enemies closer) don't give a fuck about your enemies. Really.

and i post again

okay this has been a very silly and annoying week so far, with me having gotten some funny experimental error in the chem practical, realising that i have a bucketload of projects coming up...and you get the picture. typical mid term crisis. but DMP is coming up. ho ho ho hoho ho slack ho ho ho . lol.

some people have very curious msn nicknames. here's one. 'YAHWIOAPJEDSKLDNFSDIFHSOIDJFASDFKNEWR. While there is this inclination to tease people who do not fit into the norm, and use them as a scapegoat, it is sort of like a method of hiding one's insecurities. offense is the best form of defense, eh? I quote Nick carraway from the great gatsby

"In my younger and more vulnerable years, my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. Whenever you feel like critisizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."

it seems to be such a normal and everyday thing to say yet it is very true and i tihnk that i should think about this more often (i shan't say reflect due to the hollowness of the term). there are many people in our school who are extremely sincere and loyal and show school spirit. there are countless people labelled as slackers, yet when asked to do work, or to help, they are always ready. there are real slackers but those are much fewer than people imagine. there are also those who have weird mannerisms or ways of talking or ways of behaving that can be either annoying or embarassing or even pathetic, yet more often than not these people are very profound individuals who for some reason hide under a shell, or are disregarded simply due to their lack of rapport with others.

RI is a school that rewards those with more open, visible styles of leadership; those who can rally support well and those who have confidence in their abilities.

Saying this though there are many people who are leaders in their own sense, be it on the soccer field, in the four walls of a classroom or simply at a sporing final...coming down when your class is not even called. these people epitomise the rafflesian spirit, which can never be quelled and can never be rendered inactive. There have been many doubts as to whether rafflesian spirit is still alive and kicking but i can assure you it is still there. it is there everyday and should not be considered to be there only if everyone is all 'go raffles go' 24/7. people are together in complaining about homwork, and they get through it together. they complain and fret about exams yet they survive, and are more united at the end. people complain about others, but when the people they dislike are playing their hearts out for the school, they will side with them. i tell you the rafflesian spirit is alive.

CTs

i have this sinking feeling in my stomach. that never bodes well...

anyway. the CTs that are done so far are: Eng, SS, HMT. thats it.
I mean, yes that's three down, but i am getting this really weird feeling that this is just a taster...like a mock. For tomorrow and day after. Chem, Math, Physics. BANGBANGBANG. Maths and physics all in one shot. What are they playing at? I mean, at about noon on Friday, 5.5.06, come in to every risec3 class with a collection tin, and you'll have enough wandering braincells to replace your own. come on. the two toughest (for me) subjects on the same day. i was banking on a less stressful, but nonetheless hand-killing history or lit at first, followed by physics or math. Just keep the two darned subjects AS FAR AWAY FROM EACH OTHER AS POSSIBLE. my physics toy pulled my grade up, and so far, its what i have mugged for the most. As for maths...er....well...er...Did anyone say recess?

rigid.

CTs

blogger is weird. i dunno why when i press the 'bold' button it unbolds and vice versa...
anyway, don't you find it weird that i am updating after a month and a quarter when its just before Cts? The Autobiography of Kartik Aiyar

If you saw a baby with a large black birthmark on his right arm being born on the 7th of September 1991 at EastWest Hospital in New Delhi, India, chances are that you saw me, Kartik Sanjiv Aiyar. The peculiar thing about the birthmark was that it had a considerable growth of hair on it, which was to be shaved off later. I was born in the pink of health, and was out and moved into the large Delhi house of my grandparents pretty soon. I have a lot of fond memories of the three years I lived over there, and one stands out quite a bit. It was my first time riding a bicycle. I remember it as clearly as yesterday, when I was on the big lawn behind the house, and was pushed halfway by my father, and completed the rest by myself without actually knowing that I did (I was alerted to this a bit later).

A few months before I turned four, I moved to Singapore, and led a largely uneventful life until about a year later, when, in my kindergarten, I met my partner-in-crime, a boy called Rajeev (who is in RI too). We were quite a laugh then, as we would trick all the other children, by telling them the snacks they brought from home were bad for health, and then we would eat them ourselves...gullible little tots they were...

I graduated reluctantly from kindergarten, and joined Henry Park Primary School, where, in Primary 4 I was selected for the school soccer team. We were very good, except for the minor drawback in that our best result in 5 games was a minor 14-0 defeat. The next year however, saw an astonishing improvement, as we registered what we believe, were the only two football victories in Henry Park history, defeating Zhonghua primary 4-2, courtesy two goals by me, and some other school, which I fail to remember, 2-1, where I scored both the winning goal and an own goal for the other team. After my PSLE, to my considerable delight, I was accepted into the premier secondary school in Raffles Institution, where, in my second year, I was elected into the Prefectorial Board. I am reasonably outgoing and have a number of friends, both from school and family friends. I also have a number of pen pals in India. My only real shortcoming, quite literally is my height. I am currently in my third year at Raffles Institution, despising my holiday homework and the looming term which promises to be full of motivational and easy-to-do tests. I usually combat all this stress by, well, slacking, and doing something throughly non-educational for as long as possible. Examples would be watching football matches late at night (go Arsenal!) and playing on my beloved Xbox (a popular gaming console).

For the future, I hope to go to university at an Ivy League college. I am currently banking on my sister for an alumni recommendation, provided she gets in when the admissions are announced later this month. I think this is very likely. I want to study economics, and be a banker or become an engineer through physics, though I don't think either of this will happen as I want to do something other than the typical doctor, lwayer, banker and engineer. I dream of becoming either a chef, or an engineer in Formula One Motor Racing. I also would not mind doing social work in many countries for the United Nations.

In the next twenty-five years, I hope to have a comfortable job that is not to stressful, a residence in a country with four seasons and a large family with four children.

I think I am someone many people can relate to - an average person who just likes to have his dose of fun, and believes that a litle bit of hard work never killed anyone, but has come pretty close many a time. But seriously, in all, my outlook on life is one should be less uptight about things and learn to take it easy once in a while. I, for one believe all purpose in life is lost if one continues working and working and working, without taking time to rest and appreciate the fruits of his labour. I dream of going back one day to India and serve it in some way, as I am reasonably patriotic towards it, and have done very little for it having left there at three. All in all, from what I have seen from life so far, I believe in living for the moment and enjoying life to the fullest - and I think you should too!

781 words

looong days

whoa. today was a looong day...i mean it wasn't that tiring, but i came back ome at 8.15, which isn't exactly very fun. but the day was enjoyable nonetheless. neo was in a bad mood today for some reason, in between not knowing how to do the physics quiz and hoping to find meaning in life, i guess he can't be that happy...then i had to collect 5 bucks for history, which made me aooreciate treasurers cos just getting the money, signatures and going to the photocopying lady and rushing to get to the canteen in time for duty was like...mad. though i may have said the day was not tiring, physics certainly was. everyone in the class screwed up the lab ws (mr lim said he first one always sucks) and so we had to go through everything, detail by detial. with my *great* attention span, i managed to hang onto only a few words by which time i started doodling...(bad me, bad me). after school ended rather uneventfully, i went and had a great rocking ball of a time packing oranges in the finance department. a real rollercoaster ride that was. (if you didn't spot the sarcasm in that, you couldn't find rain in a rainstorm) (this is despite the fact that i volunteered to pack oranges) anyway, after that i went with zhengxuan and kevin to j8, where we ate at macs, discussing the dimwitted doings of people from our primary school. i couldn't stop laughing. then zhengxuan was smsing someone, who also happened to be at j8, so he said he'd be in popular to meet that person, whom he met. He was acting very weirdly (browsing through a book like sir stamford raffles etc) so i couldn't help a snigger or two. then he made a LUDICROUS (hehe) accusation against me, and later, kevin. loll. then we went to ntuc and discussed further. we then decided to walk back to school through the bubble tea place. then we slacked in the library for like 15 minutes before realising we had to go to the board meeting. at the start of the board meeting, tom was saying he hoped he could stay awake, but in the end tom seemed to have his eyes open while i, despite not keeping my eyes open, felt my concentation creeping away quite a few times. luckily i had the ever alert will next to me clicking hi tongue whenever he realised i was unnecessarily doodling, so i joined in the discussions at various points. i really wanted to speak up about the SIGs when they were mentioned in zhengxuans presentation, but somehow i totally forgot. damn. tally ho, goodnight boys.

three kyoo oh six

whoa, my class this year roxor. theres never a dull moment, as illustarted today. it always happens during maths or english. first, during maths, daryl suddenly made some lameo joke which wasn't really funny, then he stared at neo and me and gab waiting for us to laugh...it was damn funny, he stared for like 5 minutes about some joke about edward scissorhands. LOL.
then during english ms kuo asked us why we were late for assembly. then victor replied, cos he's the monitor. and he said "i asked them to come but they all said "fuck you""...he's funnyyy. then after that sebastien gave his anecdote, and he said, in front of everyone...well, you know what he said, about pms and all. physics was boring...i screwed up my worksheet, but managed to redo it properly to the surprise of everyone, in 3 minutes, thus managing to get to an early recess....where i did my tamil stuff...not very interesting.
i really hope i can be an sl. i should have applied in any case...stupid me...

neo is a lucky sod man. he lost/left his phone in mcdonalds, and he went back after realising he had lost it and he got it back all right! i however, being as forgetful and er..(my vocabulary fails me momentarily) a klutz, lose my phone in sec 1, IN MY CLASS, IN MY BAG. now what are the chances, you think. after sch, went as usual to j8 with akash, nanda and sibi. there was a lot of bitching about various things (yes, indians are very complain-y...only mathan like his being a bitch). but its damn fun...partially its the many many jokes and interesting descriptions of people, and its the funny accent they (sibi and nanda mainly) use.
examples:
lunch = lunk
pastamania = paastoh
MOELC = either said together or "the land of moelec"

holidaays

yes, holidays at last. got back things like the APR and all, didn't do too badly, except for tamil, and all of you out there know why. surprisingly, i passed philo, with a B+, which means i did not do too badly for it...i mean, it can't hurt to get the same grade as some who did their journal entries conscientiously. chengy got C. C! 54 at most. just 5 marks in it! ah well, you can't have everything.
2 things i need to do next year
1) improve my math score
2) mug for CTs haha

now to convince you to take the same subject combo as me.
it is VERY GOOD. physics, chem, lit, and history.
lit and history are both interesting and non-mugger subjects. so instead of taking trip science, you take a greater variety of subjects, which is GOOD and keeps school a little more interesting. and anyway, in JC, math is compulsory, and they've introduced the contrasting subject rule, meaning you'd probably take physics and chem as your 2 sciences, and drop bio...but if you take 2 humans, you'd know them both to consider them as your humans choice. so the subject combo to take:

physics, chem, lit, history

remember that.

holiiidays.

the holidays are so near. i hope i pass philo. it is raining outside and i want it to stop cos i want to go outside. i am being so friggin random. i wonder why. could it be because i am eating chocolate? or because rabbits like carrots? huh.

anyway, the holidays really are getting ever so much closer, with only 2.5 days of school left effectively. the prefect election results came in today and i am pleased to say i got voted in. special thanks goes out to my campaign manager slyp, and haliim, who stayed back quite a few times during recess to help me put up my posters. you guys rock. it was veryvery nerve-wrecking in the LT, and just before going in jerome was saying he was scared he would again experience the disappointment of last year, but he didn't! and zheng xuan was saying he was not nervous cos he knew he wouldn't get in, but he did! yeah!
after the results were flashed, it was rather muted cos no one really wanted to celebrate and rub it in further for those who tried so hard but didn't make it in the end. feel really sorry for those guys, and i wish there was something i could do. i mean i would have felt real bad had i not made it too...
prefects retreat is at the end of november, but i may have to go to india, to visit my grandparents. i want to do both...another tough decision seems to be looming...

i shall end this entry as abruptly as i started it

results back

got all our results except for english back, i didn't do too badly, except for geog (16.5/30). but my overall for geog was a salvageable 65%. my gpa this time round is probably gonna be around 3.73, because of geog and tamil (both 3.2). wonder how i'll end up doing for english...heard some people got some very erratic marks....

just came back from school, after lunch at kfc with gab tong, sambor and ah gong. they went off really late to 3rd lang and i headed home on 156, all ALONE in the bus for about half the journey. it was nice talking to the bus driver as though it was in a cab. was fun watching the bus spalsh through all the immensely deep puddles...no ponds of water (it really rained today)...

was thinking some random thoughts and decided to list out my soccer dream team...an objective one un-influenced by any west ham thoughts...or anti-chelsea thoughts for that matter...

formation: 4-1-2-1-2 [diamond]

gk: cech (duh)

def: cb: terry and carragher. solid, no nonsense type defenders are the best in the center.
rb: toughie here, but i will go with maldini. lb: roberto carlos. not much of a defender, but offers many attacking options

mid: dm: michael essien. cm: kaka and lampard, am: ronaldinho

for: henry, adriano

though the midfielders are all more centrally inclined, lampard and ronaldinho are definitely versatile enough to send in the occasional cross in from the right, while on the left, roberto carlos would provide the crossing option. henry himself tends to drift onto the wings quite a bt, so all in all there wuld be enough takers for the cross. what a team eh? cech, terry, carragher, maldini, carlos, essien, kaka, lampard, ronaldinho, hery, adriano. whoo.

of interclass and forums...

today the post exams activities planned were not really that interesting, more of stuff done out of necessity i guess, with the last drama group coming up short of what was promised. i will go by the order of events.

1. OBS briefing. was rather interesting...never really realised obs was so close around haha, just 2 months away effectively. signed up to be on one of the organising committees. i signed up with my class, and then realised how ironic it was cos we wouldn't be together next year. i felt damn sad..i mean just as you get used to the class and really start loving it and the spirit, you're going to have to change....how sad.

2. Batch forums. went rather okay, a guy asked me how i could be effective as a prefect being as short as i am...embarassing question really to answer in front of the whole batch haha, but no offense to you who asked the question. i then made a rather stupid faux pas and referred to our prefect master as 'paul lim'. i immediately noticed it and said mr. paul lim, but everyone had noticed, and that was embarassing too. i call it a faux pas because it was an honest mistake, and not a sign of disrespect or anything, but i know how it must have looked. anyway, enough about that, i am embarassing myself even further. the forum as a whole went pretty well, at least, nobody seemed to hate me at the end of it all. the forum with the GE people whom i knew much better was rather pathetic, as in the end there was time only for 2 questions, and they were not very revealing.

3. the troupe that came to perform. sorry to you performers, but i found the act rather boring. it was like they were trying to copy 'whose line is it anyway'. they ended up coming across as a much more feeble version of those in the actual show. however, that could have partly been because the suggestions for their acts could have been better. like for this one where we had to suggest lines for the character, some people suggested 'yo' and 'bo' as the only lines for the character to say. i mean, what on earth? haliim and i were yelling out 'dude, where's my car' but were not heard, sad to say. then there was this part where the troupe were doing a skit in a shakespearan setting. all they did was to add an -eth to the end of every word (i.e. whereth areth youeth going eth? eth eth eth [added for good measure]) it got stale after a bit. they should have perhaps quoted lines from his plays or something...then again it was impromptu.

lastly, after all that was interclass. 2j won the group comfortably, as expected. it was real sad, yet heartening to see the 2L guys after their loss...showed real class spirit. keep that up, guys!

can you say WHOPEE?

Yes, its true, the exams are officially over. I was out the whole of yesterday enjoying my new found freedom. should have played soccer after school yesterday but didn't bring my pe. Instead, i went staright out to enjoy my freedom with my friends. watched spanglish on dvd...rather was a waste of time cos the movie was a bit muddled and it all ended in a confused mess...not sufficiently comedy-ish. slacked around for the rest of the day really...today was a holiday so i successfully woke up at noon and had a heavy brunch. wanted to go down for soccer and then settle down to some EPL when i realised it was not the weekend. So i decided to come and blog. wonder what i shall do tomorrow after school if i have the time...btw tomorrow is also the batch forum where we have to face the whole batch in the LTs and answer their questions. can't be too bad i'm sure, not after the nerve-wrecking speech...so other than my campaigning and all, its really into total slack mode now. exam results will come back next week, but see, thats really the last thing on my mind right now.

Yes, people, just a day more. A DAY.

Wow, physics was rather easier than i had anticipated it to be...it was something like 5 or 6 of the mini quizzes strung together in one paper. But i lost 1 mcq mark already...lol haliim copied his own answer wrongly onto the front sheet (he had the same answer as me in mind) and ended up getting it correct, lucky guy...yet again did sin as h/o and not o/h. darn another mark lost there. but not to worry, ms quah gave us damn high marks. ms quah is such a nice teacher you know, always looking to help you out and never getting angry really, at anyone. man this year i have really had damn nice FTs, just as in sec 1. i hope this continues next year. after the exam i hung around in class and got smacked on the head by the class farm animal, who was incidentally very happy to see jotham had returned, so his fingers could again rest in jothams head...much to the annoyance of jotham i am sure. the class has started a new trend, playing basketball, with the hoop being the tiny gap between the bar supporting the ohp screen. norris is tyco man, he just threw the thing and it landed in. everytime i try it hits the bar and stays out. maybe i need to be taller or something. correction, i DO NEED to be taller. hopefully, the time will come when i grow taller than chansey and can call him a ZWERRED ZWER. how nice that would be.

ahh.tomorrow is my liberation. will probably go watch corpse bride or bride corpse or wateva the movie is called with akash and the 2d ppl if they're going. will then hang out in j8, and slack for the rest of the day. okay, i must go now and type out all the formulae i need to remember tomorrow for math. lucky we can use the calculator for the whole test. okay, then let's hope tmr comes as fast as it can!

Today's exams...

Hey again...er today was geog and history. Geography (surprise, surprise) killed me. Killedmekilledmekilledme. Thank god i can drop geog next year...really dunno how to do the essay qns...maybe i am too much of a history person. Or maybe it was because man city beat west ham 2-1...i dunno. History was pretty fine...i am pretty sure of getting my 32/40 (80%)...i will lose marks though cos i didn't write enough for the 8-mark question and i put british military ASSOCIATION instead of Administration. But history is okay for me...its the GEOG. stupid geog. rivers...screw them. natural vegetation? forget it.

came home on 156 with sambor and gab ng, tong and tom. was discussing my fpl squad. i believe etherington's substitute scored for west ham yesterday night. not him, his substitute. damn. But i really thought Onouha should have gotten sent of in the first half. He was like last man and Harewood had clearly gotten around him, and was blocked off a one-on-one situation. He should have gotten the red card unfairly given to Kizhanishvili. At least benayoun got 5 points when i checked. I am BOTTOM of the pile. though that could be because i have played the least games. tomorrow is a crunch match for my squad, with charlton playing fulham. I have Bent, er...Jensen, McBride and Perry all playing in that match. The score i predict? 3-2 Charlton, with Bent scoring a brace and Perry a header. Jensen will score a free kick and McBride will get a tap in for Fulham.

You wish.

So anyway, tomorrow is physics, and then WEDNESDAY (!!!) is math. then...freedom. wonder if neville is coming. Speaking of neville, that reminded me...i saw Govind at his farewell party. He's moving to US. i saw crawshaw flipping meat on the bbq looking really twisted as usual...and basil thought i was sidhant. do i really look like sidhant? lol...

CTs...

Hi, my blog is finally active, but i cannot seem to get on to msn to tell people about the blog and to link it and go tag it and stuff like that. Screwed up...

Anyway, a lot of things are going on right now, and firstly and most importantly, the CTs. For friday's exams (lit and tamil) i hardly did a thing for tamil, but did enough for lit. In the end both papers were okay...not too bad i guess. But then after friday i somehow have been in a total slack mode and have not done ANY studying. History is more of revising, being a carbon copy of p6 SS, but geog!? I really know nothing about River Studies...Natural vegetation at least y general knowledge can help...but that too, we have to remember the different layers in the forest and all that shit. I dunno how some people know all that during class. River studies...how does one memorise hydraulic action, plunge pools, corrOsion, corrAsion and all that in one evening? I have NO idea...prolly will get someone to help me. Physics needs a lot of mugging and refreshing of memory, though i know i will again screw up my power, work and energy (lol that sounded funny). Maths...much better than last semester with al that nonsense about coordinate geometry...maybe will ask for some extra worksheets or something. WEDNESDAY cannot come soon enough.

The other thing going on is the prefect elections. I do not think my campaign has attracted far too much unwanted attention, but then again, everyone around seems to be complaining about the prefect nominees in general. Some people have constructive criticism, but others seem to be making personal attacks. However, i do feel they have a valid point when it comes to asking us how they can be sure our promises will be fulfilled. I think it is sort of a vicious cycle the nominees every year get into, after seeing the previous batch, we too go along the same lines and try making corny posters and speeches in a bid to get their name remembered during the election day. Saying that though, i think a few of us this year have tried to cut down on emphasis on their promises, but rather shift that to emphasis on their own qualities and their own passion. I came across the rafflescritics.blogspot.com thing and saw that i came under the band of 'satisfactory'. Kudos to Tom and Titus man, i really think you guys do deserve to be the 'highly recommended' nominees for our batch. I would not say that the rafflescritics seem bitchy or overly critical...after all, last year i was one of those who saw the speeches and posters and thought that they were lame or unsatisfactory myself. So i think it is good that rafflescritics are voicing out the opinions of many and trying to make a difference themselves. I would however like to appeal to them and tell them not to place any nominees in the 'highly unsatisfactory' category. It is rather degrading to them and will be very dampening to their spirits if they see it. Every nominee has really put in a LOT of effort into their campaigns, and i think none of them have been unsatisfactory at all in terms of their effort. So thats some food for thought.

On my campaign itself...it has sort of come to a standstill after the taking down of posters for CT, but there is still the batch forum on friday and the ELECTION DAY on..i cannot remember when...haha. Thanks to all those who have supported my so far, you guys have been great. especially brian soh from 2I, who helped me with my speech start when i asked him at the last minute..was very nice of him...

So thats all for now. I have gone back to being a West Ham fan after remebering i promised to go support them again if they got promoted after relegation. They got a pretty good squad this time. To think though that they got relegated with a squad having the likes of Defoe, Ferdinand, Di Canio and Frank Lampard in their team! For FPL, lets all hope etherington, joey barton, marcus bent, benayoun, mcbride and jensen perform in their matches today and tomorrow yeah!<div
